The Library does not charge fines per se. However, there are penalties for late items:
Regular circulating books: you will get 2 overdue notices. If the item is not returned then you will be billed for the replacement value of the book plus a processing fee. If the book is lost then you may either pay the library or give a replacement copy of an as good or better edition.
Reserve materials including computers and peripherals:
In order to guarantee that materials are available to all our users in a fair and equitable manner, the library will suspend the borrowing privileges of patrons who do not return items on time. If users continue to keep items out late after warnings, the suspensions will increase and, if they are students, the appropriate dean of their school will be informed.
The policy is as follows:
Reserve items must be used in the library.
Exception: Overnight Reserve Books may be taken out of the library when checked out after 4pm.
If a reserve item is one hour or more late:
- 1st offense: suspension of all borrowing privileges, to be lifted 24 hours after item is returned
- 2nd offense: suspension of all borrowing privileges to be lifted one week (7 days) after return
- 3rd offense: suspension of all borrowing privileges to be lifted one month after return and notification to the dean
- 4th offense: suspension of all borrowing privileges to be lifted one semester after return
Note: Suspension of borrowing privileges goes into effect once a given item is 1 hour overdue, and will remain in effect for the periods listed above.
